Hello everyone, I hope your all well and thank you for baring with me whilst I’ve been having a little break enjoying family time with my boys. Today I thought I’d fill you in on what we have been up to and share some pictures from our first family holiday. I have to admit I never thought our first family holiday would be in the UK and I certainly didn’t think it would be Butlins but it was and we had a great time. I always associated Butlins with Stag and Hen do’s, something cheap and tacky. Don’t ask me why but that was my perception of the place before going so when we arrived I was pleasantly surprised and to be honest throughout the whole trip I was more and more delighted by our decision to go there and I’d high recommend if your thinking of taking your little ones on a UK break.
Mark actually booked Butlins as a surprise for Vinny and I as we had booked some holiday off work to go to Birmingham the week before for a wedding, he originally booked a double standard room but after having a little re think we decided to upgrade to an apartment and I’m so glad we did. The apartment was a Silver Apartment with a double room and a twin room which was ideal because that meant we could have Vinny in his own room and we wouldn’t disturb him when going to bed, it was also great because we had our own lounge and kitchen which was open planned and super cosy. The apartment itself was very clean and had everything we needed from fresh clean bedding to tea and coffee facilities, it was also great to see we had a fridge and microwave which was one thing I really wanted to have in our room for our trip. The only thing I would say which could be improved was the fact there was only a shower in our apartment which made things a little difficult when giving Vinny a wash, we ended up giving him a bath in the kitchen sink old school! I guess there are only showers because the bathroom is quite small but considering the apartments are aimed at families it would be great to have a bath next time or even a matt to pop on the floor to stop baby slipping if we were to give him a shower.
Wow, what can I say. There is something for everyone here and there is always something to go see or do which I absolutely loved. Upon arrival we were greeted by the fab fair ground, although it was mainly focused on the adults Vinny thoroughly enjoyed having a run about and the sun was shining too which was a bonus (there is a tots fairground but found it was still a little too old for Vinny). We took Vinny to his first tots disco on our first night which he loved but I tell you what he loved more, the bubble machines the lovely girls were selling he would literally dance about in the bubbles trying to catch them all it was so cute! We also took Vinny swimming, the Butlins team allocate times in the morning where you can take your tot when the slides are off and it’s more of a relaxed serene environment which was a great start to ease Vinny into the pool he had a great time and we even went during the day when it was a little busier and he still loved it, the changing rooms were very clean and had lots of nice family sized changing rooms which was ideal.
Another great activity we took Vinny to was arts & crafts located in the Little Stars building, I couldn’t quite believe that he sat for so long decorating a plate with a lion design. He was so cute and Mark and I got to join in too, Vinny was quite drawn to the CD player though and danced away to the Disney CD for about 10 minutes bless him! We did want to take Vinny to messy play but unfortunately it was always on during his nap time so Arts & Crafts it was. Overall the activities that are set out for you are amazing, there is something for everyone from tots to teens to adults. I would say there could be more for babies and young toddlers but I do think they are harder to please, I think a soft play centre for the younger ones would be good. There is a soft play area but it is for bigger children and adults can’t go in so something for babies would be great.
Overall we had a fantastic time at Butlins, the staff were super friendly and there wasn’t a job to big or small for them unfortunately we had to come home a day early due to Marks work commitments but there was still so much we wanted to do. The prices of food was really good and there is a huge variety of restaurants and cafes to go and you can even get a takeaway too, we may have got a cheeky fish and chips one night and pizza hut the next, opps! We will definitely be visiting Butlins again in the future and can’t see why we wouldn’t go again we had an amazing time.
Have you been to Butlins before, what did you think?
I will post about a few essentials we brought with us over the next few weeks, there were some fab items which we couldn’t live without so keep those peepers peeled!
