Dressing Table Must-Haves

I love having a dressing table, it’s somewhere where I can apply my makeup in peace and make myself look semi-presentable. I say peace, usually I’m rocking the baby whilst shouting down to Mark to grab the baby a bottle of milk whilst Vinny is sat on the bed asking me ‘what are we doing today?’. When I do get that 5 minutes to myself I find that having all of my essentials near by is crucial when getting ready so let me talk you through them.

My dressing table has been in three different bedrooms in our house before and one of the issues I found when it was in room number two was no natural light. The room itself had natural light but I the table wasn’t positioned in front of the window which made makeup application a little harder. I could still see of course but when I went into the light on many occasions I was looking rather…. Oompa Loompa! I’d apply way too much foundation and bronzer resulting in me looking rather ridiculous. When I moved the dressing table back into our room and in front of the window I noticed a huge difference, not only with the way my makeup turned out but actually the time it took reduced considerably!

A rather obvious one but an essential for me, I have so much makeup. Too much in fact. I currently have the Ikea Malm dressing table which luckily comes with a pull out drawer. The Malm contains most of my daily essentials and I also have some clear acrylic containers for extra storage and brushes.

A nice large table mirror. It’s so much easier to use a large mirror rather than a hand-held one when doing your makeup. I can do my liner with ease… I say with ease. I still haven’t got the Cat-Flick down but I’m working on it and having both hands free means I can give it my best shot!

I can’t apply my makeup without doing my skincare routine so after I’ve done my cleansing routine in the morning I always have my favourite serums, moisturisers and eye creams to hand ready for the day. I also keep my night creams here to ensure I don’t forget to apply them before bed. Having them near by always prompts me to be good and carry out my proper skincare routine.

A pretty tray is a must have on any dressing table. I like to place my favourite fragrances on mine along with accessories and jewellery. It not only looks pretty but it also keeps me organised. I always know where to find my favourite pieces and fragrances for the season.
