The Budget Base

budget base products budget base products loreal bronzer I absolutely love finding products that work for me from the drugstore. It’s so refreshing to see drugstore brands really upping their game lately, creating new innovative products that work really well. I’ve been trying some drugstore base products this week and I wanted to share with you my thoughts on them. I have found an absolute gem which I know I will be repurchasing once it’s finished so let’s get started and I will talk you through The Budget Base.

When it comes to foundation there are two budget brands that I always go to, L’Oreal and Bourjois. I really love these two brands because they have a great selection of foundation including matte and dewy finishes. My summer favourite has to be the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation, I use the shade 52 Vanille but also use 53 Beige Clair when I’m tanned . You all know I’ve been using this for years and it’s always a summer favourite of mine. I love this foundation for a number of reasons, the colour is fab as it’s yellow toned and the finish is natural, dewy and gives a nice amount of coverage. The lightweight formula is very easy to work with and the gel consistency is really refreshing to use.

To set my foundation I use the Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder, this is my absolute favourite budget powder and I actually favour it over many high-end as you can probably tell! It’s finely milled and applies so nicely to the skin. I use this to set my foundation in areas I don’t want shine and also to set my under eye concealer. It’s amazing.

I have a few drugstore concealers and they are all pretty fab. I’ve repurchased the Maybelline Eraser Eye concealer a number of times this works amazingly well at brightening up the eye area and gives great coverage. I also love the L’Oreal Paris True Match for the under eyes, and for blemishes the Collection concealer is amazing full coverage and stays put all day… Can you tell I love concealer. It’s a mummy must have!

loreal cushion bronzer

Oh I’m so excited to tell you about my latest bronzer find. The L’Oreal Paris Glam Bronze Cushion Soleil is my new favourite bronzer! I’ve been using it for about a week and it’s been my go-to product on a daily basis whether I’m just having a simple no makeup day or the full shebang. Honestly I am so impressed. This cushion bronzer looks a little odd but it’s totally on trend when it comes to base products. I’ve seen so many cushion foundations launch lately so it was inevitable that they were going to bring out a bronzer too and here it is.

The colour is the perfect bronze shade, warming up the skin with ease and minimal effort. When I first used it I used a stippling brush and lightly dipped the brush onto the cushion, it picked up so much product which I didn’t realise until I swooped it onto my cheeks. Despite the huge amount of product that started on my brush it blended in nicely and left me looking like bronzed goddess. I couldn’t stop looking at my skin it just looks so nice when I wear this, I’m obsessed! A little goes a long way and I can see this lasting me quite some time.

topshop gleam

I must admit it’s been hard finding a great budget highlighter. You all know I’m all about the glow so finding something that lives up to my Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kits and Mary Lou Loumanizer by The Balm has been a challenge. There is one budget product I do go to though when I’m after a dewy glow that is the TopShop Glow Pot in Gleam. I actually bought this because the Glow Pot in Polished was always out of stock so I bought Gleam on a whim and it’s actually a fab highlighter. This comes in a cream type of formula and it gives some serious glow. I simply tap it onto my cheekbones and blend with my fingers for a smooth finish and it looks divine, perfect holiday product that looks amazing with simple dewy makeup.

Blushers aren’t really my thing but one I have recently fallen in love with is from the Rimmel London Sculpting Palette #003. This has a highlighter shade which isn’t that pigmented unfortunately, a contour shade which is super pigmented and a pretty rose gold blush which I love. It reminds me a bit of Nars Orgasm, I’ve never tried Nars Orgasm but by seeing swatches online I’d say it’s similar so a great drugstore dupe for you to try. It’s a peachy coral shade with gold reflects in it, very pretty and ideal for summer!
