Urban Decays latest launch is a special-edition collection that’s inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat’s iconic artwork. Basquiat was known for his edgy vibes and use of bright colours. Originally a graffiti artist, the New York native went on to be a leader in the neo-expressionist movement of the ’80s.
This collaboration has been created to inspire you to be artistic yourself, after all makeup is art and I love nothing more than to sit at my vanity and experiment with different looks and colours. The collection includes; Gold Griot Eyeshadow Palette, Tenant Eyeshadow Palette, a blush Palette, 3 Vice Lipsticks in Abstract, Epigram, and Exhibition. 3 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils in Anatomy, Post Punk, and Vivid. Finally there is also a Cosmetic Bag Collection.
As you can see Basquiat’s artwork has been wrapped round the packaging and there are also holes on the back of the palettes so you can hang the artwork in your home. I thought this was a really great idea and it’s so nice that you can actually hang these palettes as unique pieces of art.
I have been trying out the Gold Griot Eyeshadow palette. This is a vertical palette, something I’ve never seen before. There are 8 new neutrals shades included and a double ended brush. Although it’s a neutral palette there are lots of options and you can create so many looks. I’m a sucker for bronze shades and navys so I was really excited to try it out. There are a mix of mattes, metallics and satin finish shadows. All of which blend really well and are super pigmented.
I have also had the opportunity to try one of the Vice lipsticks in the shade Abstract. This is a burnt sienna shade. It has a warm undertone and the texture is very lightweight. A very hydrating a comfortable lipstick to wear and I really love the colour! You can see me wearing it in this picture here and applying it in this video. All of the lipsticks in this collection have been wrapped in a canvas that features Basquiat artwork, it’s like a gallery in your handbag.
Finally the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils, just look at those colours. So vibrant! All three of the shades are very smooth to apply, very creamy too which doesn’t make them last very long but I think they work really well along the top lash line, smudged out. Also they make a great base, I imagine they would go particularly well with the Tenant palette which features many bold shades. I do really love the shade Anatomy, again another burnt sienna shade. It’s really gorgeous.
