Straightening my hair as a teen was never really an option, I did try those good ol’ steam straighteners when I was in year 9, you know the ones you add water too? And that gave me a straight frizzy do’. But as soon as I discovered GHDs many years later I never really looked back. It’s weird because when I was at school I absolutely hated my unruly curly hair and over the years as I’ve straightened it non stop the curl has now practically gone and it’s more like Hagrid whenever I opt for natural hair, but I do miss those curls.
I was watching a video last week by Sam (Pixiwoo) and she was sharing her hair routine and I thought I’d give it a whirl….. I’m loving it! I’ve tried it a few times now and it’s actually put me off the chop which I have been debating for a little while now. I’m going to give my hair a bit of a chance and embrace my natural wave and see how it goes, so far so good.
Choosing to embrace your natural hair is all well and good but products to tame the frizz are a must. I like to use minimal products in my hair, I just don’t like my hair feeling heavy or like there is a lot of product in it so I literally have been using two things. A detangling product, the Bumble & Bumble Invisible Oil Primer and then…. Redken No Blow Dry Cream. This, is a game changer. I have used a product like this before, the Bumble Don’t Blow It cream, which was fab but this actually cheaper and I prefer the final results.
Redken recently launched their No Blow Dry Hair Cream for all hair types. Yep that’s right, there are three blow dry creams to choose from. JUST RIGHT CREAM for Medium hair, AIRY CREAM for fine hair and BOSSY CREAM for coarse hair. I have been using the Just Right cream on my locks and it’s been working like a dream. These products are air drying products so no need for hot tools, or any styling at all in fact. All you need to do is scrunch or twist it into damp hair and let it dry. It’s really as easy as that. The next day I do usually go in with my GHDs to add a few random curls, as I mentioned my hair is just wavy these days so I like to add a little more volume by adding a few random curls to make it look a little more interesting and you guys seem to be loving it!
When I first used this cream I used too much product and it did leave a slightly crunchy feeling whilst it was drying, it did dry faster than usual though because it has quick-dry polymers for a faster drying time. Oh and the crunch? This actually went then next day and my waves were soft and defined. And since my first trial I have been using a lot less product and it’s just amazing. My hair looks soft and shiny once dry which is a big thing because as you know I use a bleach on my locks so shine is very hard to achieve with my hair.
I’d definitely recommend trying one of these creams out if you need something that’s very easy to use. It has made my hair much more manageable when it’s in its natural state.
