housework workoutI'm not going to lie, I've never really been a fan of going to the gym or out for a jog. It's just not something I enjoy and it used to feel like such an effort and a nuisance. But guess what guys, I no longer have to force myself into those situations... not that I really ever did but you know what it's like. Each year I get that new year, new me feeling and it usually always involves my weight and health. This year I'm taking a different approach and I'm going to get moving in a way that can benefit myself and our home. The housework workout!

houseworkThis is really a thing guys. Honestly, I love cleaning. You probably all know by now because of all the cleaning content on my YouTube channel recently but honestly it's like therapy for me. I put my music on, get cleaning and most importantly get moving. It's not always easy to clean the whole house though, I do have to get myself motivated sometimes especially when Renzo is napping and all I want to do is sit down and have a cup of tea but let me tell you how I get motivated and hopefully help you out too.

Music, yes I absolutely love it. Music always gets me in a good mood so I pop on the radio and get my clean on. I also love to listen to podcasts, its something I've recently discovered and I'm really enjoying them.

I also get myself motivated by buying myself some new cleaning clothes, I like to be comfortable because when I'm cleaning I'm not just wiping down surfaces. You're using all of your muscles, walking, stretching, bending, and lifting. I like to make sure I'm comfortable, so I can really make the most of my power hours. I've been wearing some items from the SOULUXE range recently from Matalan and they are super comfy. Definitely makes a change from my usual pyjama set up and I no longer feel like a slob when I'm opening the door to the postman anymore, in fact I feel like I'm a lady who has my ish together if you know what I mean.

You're probably wondering how I make this into a workout right? Well you can burn up to 250 calories an hour doing housework so let me tell you my secrets.




Speed Clean: Set a timer for 10, 15 or 30 minutes and get a speed clean done. You will not only end up with a much tidier house but you will also get that heart rate out and create a mini cardio workout. Honestly, I did a 10 minute tidy up challenge here, and after doing that speed clean I was pretty puffed out! Unfit maybe? But hey, I'm trying and I'm moving that's what really counts.

Hoover the whole house: The forward and back motion of hoovering is a great workout for your abs.  I like to add lunges into this routine, and also a few dance moves.

Up and Down: Clean one room upstairs then move to another room downstairs, and repeat this until all of the rooms are done. You'll probably end up running or walking up and down your stairs 5 to 10 times.

Calf Raises: Whilst washing dishes or putting things away in cupboards up high do some calf raises.  Move onto your toes and hold for 3 to 10 seconds, and then slowly come down. Repeat for as long as you can or need to.
