Guest Post | Useful tips for decorating a new home

Moving into a new home can be an extremely exciting time. However, this initial excitement sometimes turns to worry as you consider just how many aspects you have to think about. There are so many things to consider when moving into a new home, ranging from: packing items, transporting them to your new location and then ensuring that your furniture is suitable for the style of your new home. One of the most time consuming aspects relates to feeling comfortable in your new home is decorating. It is fair to assume that you will want to make your own mark on the property. Perhaps it is one of the many new builds in the Cotswolds or a stylish apartment in London. Regardless, it will be necessary to make plans to transform the property into your ideal space.
Initial considerations
If you are moving from another home to a new property then you must first assess the size of your new property. Consider how much furniture and personal possessions you already have and try to imagine where they will fit in your new home. If you are downsizing then it may be necessary to sell some of your current possessions or give them to family and friends. Only keep items that are going to complement the style of your new home. The bedroom is a good place to start as it is a room that you will spend a lot of time in. Bedding should match the colour of the room if possible – deeper colours are thought to encourage relaxed periods of sleep.
Take your time and aim for a running theme
It is advisable to get a feel of your new home before you make any drastic changes. Your initial ideas may seem perfect beforehand but this can all change when you are actually living in the property. Avoid expensive purchases until you’re sure. If possible try and have a style that runs throughout the house. Colour schemes, similar furniture and matching carpets or flooring allow rooms to blend together seamlessly.
The process of remodelling or decorating a new home can be somewhat daunting. Careful planning can significantly reduce future problems. Many individuals decide to look for inspiration in other homes or magazines. When you have found a style that you like, try and implement it throughout your entire home.
