google home smart home

We  moved into our house over 6 months ago now and if you've been following our journey on YouTube then you'll know we've renovated the whole place. There hasn't been a room untouched. Most of the big jobs are done now and we are just working on making our house into a smart home for the New Year. As you already know we have Hive which we adore. Thanks to MORE TH>N we now have a few more new additions to make our home even smarter and safer for 2018, I'm going to talk you through them today.

The first step was getting Google Home, this is something I have wanted for so long. It's basically a really clever assistant which we've placed in our living room. It works as a controller for our other smart home devices by Hive and is a fantastic entertainment hub. The design is sleek and small, but don't be fooled by the size, the speaker is so powerful. You can change the base colour if you have a particular theme in your home, we really love the silver base it goes perfectly in our grey and white lounge.

Setup was incredibly easy and the first thing I did was link it to our Spotify account to play a Christmas song. Honestly you can ask it to play anything and it plays straight away, such a clever little device. Google Home recognises multiple voices so we can all use it as a family. We are constantly asking it questions, my husband loves learning new facts so he is forever asking the most random questions and Vinny loves to know what the weather is going to be like and also anything tornado or space related! It's a great learning tool for sure.

Google Home can:

  • Play music, podcasts, news
  • Answer questions about the weather, traffic, finance, news, sports, and local businesses
  • Manage tasks by helping set timers and alarms, and adding things to shopping lists
  • Control devices such as lights, thermostats, and switches.

The next smart product is one I was super excited about, Ring and Ring Chime Pro. Ring is a video doorbell. Yes that's right,  I can now see who's at my door wherever I am. Which is SO useful, especially as a blogger. If you're a blogger then you'll know we get a lot of mail, and one of our pet peeves? Those very annoying cards left by the delivery guy saying "Sorry, we couldn't deliver your parcel because it was too big, or you weren't in".

Now I can speak to the delivery guy when he is at the door, I could be out shopping, I could be doing the school run. Or even in the shower! There is a speaker and microphone on the doorbell and I can simply use the Ring app to talk and converse with whoever is at the door. I can now easily instruct the delivery man to take my parcel to a neighbour or place in a safe place and I don't have to see one of those annoying missed delivery cards again! It really is one of my favourite gadgets. I've linked it to Ring Chime Pro which is a wi-fi extender and indoor chime with multiple alert tones and even a Do Not Disturb mode.

There's also a motion detector on Ring so I can choose to get notified any time there is a motion at my door which is also recorded and saved onto the app for me to access and see. Ring even has Infrared night vision so I can see what's happening all night long. There is a live view feature too so I can just take a look and check out the area at any time of the day and it's weather resistant. Pretty handy right?

If you're looking to make your home even smarter this year I'd highly recommend these gadgets. Both incredibly useful and now something we use daily. I'm all about making our lives easier and these do just that.

I'm currently hosting a Giveaway on my Instagram and you could win a Nest Thermostat (worth £219, including installation) so head on over and enter, IT'S FREE and this could be the start of you making your house a smarter and safer home too. Good Luck.
