willbery homes

Last week we went on a family trip to Somerset for a long weekend. It’s been a while since we went away and it happened to fall on the same week Vinny broke up from school for the summer so it was all very exciting. Somerset is only around an hour and a half from us but because of the holidays and traffic it took us 4.5 hours to get there, a very long day but we got there in the end. We stayed at the Holiday Resort Unity at Brean Sands, it was pretty easy to find and the staff were very helpful.

willerbywillerbyOur accommodation was a lodge by Willerby homes. It was our first time staying in a lodge and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Our lodge was the Portland and it had 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and 1 ensuite so as you can imagine it was pretty big. When you go into the lodge you walk into the open plan living room, kitchen and dining room space which was huge and very homely. The decor was very country-style, yet modern. I loved it. They also had a shaker style kitchen, very similar to our own but one thing we don’t have is the huge double larder the Portland had. It was gorgeous and perfect if you are staying for a while and want to stock up on your essentials.

This Willerby lodge really didn’t disappoint, it had everything we needed as a family. It even had a bath, so the boys felt right at home. They love bath time and although their routine was a little all over the place whilst we were there because we wanted to enjoy every moment and really enjoy the atmosphere of the evening they still had their bath before bed as a part of our usual routine. They slept so well and even let us have a lie in!

The resort itself had so many great facilities, Brean splash, a theme park and of course one place the kids were most excited about soft play! The soft play was great, the kids were very safe in there and us adults could actually sit and watch for a change which was nice. It was the first time that we could actually let Renzo run off and play because it was the perfect layout for us to see him wherever he was, he absolutely loved running around with Vinny going down the slides and jumping on the trampolines. They had a great time.

The day before we went home it rained. We planned to take the boys to Wookey Hole and after doing some research it seemed like the best place to go on a rainy day and it really was. We had a great time exploring the caves, eating ice-cream and watching the circus show. Honestly if you’re planning a trip to Somerset I’d highly recommend a trip to Wookey Hole it’s great for every age. We all had a great day.

Overall we had a lovely weekend away, and having the comforts of our own home in our Willerby lodge just topped it off for me. It was lovely to come back to our lodge after a busy day and just feel at home. We had everything we needed, there was even a washing machine! Which is ideal if you have kids because how many times have you gone somewhere, under packed and your kids have ended up sitting in a muddy puddle?! I know I’ve been there.

If you’re thinking about staying in a Willerby lodge then I’d highly recommend it. You can also buy lodges, the Willerby Portland Lodge retails from £81,200. Lodge site fees for 2018 at Holiday Resort Unity at Brean Sands are from £4,550 and £5,950 for 2019 (at the park’s Country Club lodge development with lake and golf course views). A three night stay in the Willerby Portland (sleeps up to 6) starts from £500 (up to £1,000 in peak summer).
